Our
next Canine First Aid Course is to be held
at Southend on 7th June 2008 9am to 5pm.
Casper’s Canine First Aid Courses
As a result of the Company’s Veterinary background,
and through recognising they could become a valuable
service, Altogether Animals team members became
involved in developing a set of three K9 First Aid
Courses for the general public, which are known
as Casper’s Canine First Aid.
The sole aim of these courses is to give owners
and people who work with dogs in any field the confidence
to recognise problems and to know how to handle
different first aid situations between the incident
actually happening and getting the dog to the vet,
thus giving the dog a better chance, giving them
some peace of mind and making the transfer to the
vet a little easier.
| These courses
are of great value for breeders and other
multi dog household owners, for people who
hike well away from populated areas, those
who travel from show to show or abroad, instructors
and dog handlers from all types of working
fields who may have to deal with the occasional
unexpected first aid situation with their
dog or somebody else’s dog.
The name Casper derives from the Resuscitation
Dog used on the courses, which was shipped
over from the U.S.A. especially, the first
of its make to enter the UK. |

Canine General Health Care
This is a one-day course particularly worth-while
to first time dog owners who want to know they are
doing the right things in the general day to day
care of their dogs. The course explores how to health
check dogs, how to recognise common signs indicating
their dog may be unwell, how to recognise parasites,
what to do in the event of mild illnesses, how to
give different types of medication that might be
prescribed by their vet, how to take a temperature,
check pulse and more.
Essential Canine First Aid
This has been developed into both a one day course
and a two day course depending on how much practical
work is requested. Essential First Aid covers assessing
a situation, safety issues, how to approach, handle
and move injured dogs, the Canine ABC and how to
resuscitate, how to control bleeding and contend
with shock. Additionally this course includes two
of the most common life threatening conditions likely
to occur. Also looks at relevant prevention and
having good communication with the vets.
Advanced Canine First Aid
Only available to those who have attended the Essential
First Aid. This course covers specific first aid
situations and what to do from heatstroke to burns
of all types, prolapse and poisons amongst others.
Looks at different types of wounds and bleeding
in greater detail and teaches bandaging techniques
for different injuries and parts of the body. Again,
this course has been developed into both a one day
and a 2 day version for the same reason.
Veterinary help should always be obtained as soon
as possible.
These courses can be tailor made upon request
for specific groups of people, relevant to their
field of work with their dogs.
